The Medina Township Board of Trustees Monthly Meeting

Purpose: Regularly Scheduled Board Meeting

Call To Order: Supervisor Garner called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm
Approval of Minutes: Clerk Sundermeyer presented the minutes from the regular board meeting held on January 10, 2024. Shawn Garner made a motion to approve the minutes. Mike Molohon seconded. The minutes were approved by a unanimous voice vote.
Community Policing Report:
Deputy Ben Davison gave the report for January 2024. There were 50 reports made involving 15 reports of crimes (10 original crimes). There were also 13 traffic stops made in the township. Youngsters like to check to see if cars are unlocked, so please lock your vehicles.
Public Input: None
Old Business:
Discussion was held regarding the purchase of land for the Medina Trail. Shawn made a motion to spend $25,060 to buy 3.5 acres of land. Luke seconded. A roll call vote was taken: Shawn – aye, Mike – aye, Cindy – Aye, Luke – Aye. The motion passes.
Mike made a motion to approve the Easement Agreement for the land purchase. Luke seconded. A roll call vote was taken: Shawn – Aye, Mike – Aye, Cindy – Aye, Luke – abstain. The motion passes.
New Business:
Shawn reports that the park agreements have not been completed by the IVCYA yet. He will present them at the next board meeting.
Clerk Sundermeyer presented the meeting schedule for April 2024 – March 2025. Shawn made a motion to approve the schedule. Cindy seconded. The motion passed by a unanimous voice vote.
The striping of the parking lot at the ball fields was discussed. Mike Molohon made a motion to stripe the parking lot for $4,300 with Perdue’s Striping, Inc. Luke Harvey seconded. A roll call vote was taken: Shawn – Aye, Mike – Aye, Cindy – Aye, Luke – Aye. The motion passed unanimously.
Shawn presented the assessor’s budget for the fiscal year April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025 in the amount of $21,650 which is the same as last fiscal year.
Department Correspondence:
Supervisor Shawn Garner:
- Investment Report: the report ending on February 14, 2024 was previously presented to the board.
- There are no General Assistance cases.
- There are no cases before the Plan Commission.
- The bill from B&H Blacktopping. Inc. was submitted after the deadline.
- Park Agreements were provided to IVCYA, Pres-Season Classic, Travel Baseball. Travel Softball and BWMT.
- Shawn is checking on adding filtered sand to Field #5. This could be used as a practice field.
Road Commissioner: Frank Sturm
- Will try to work with Patrick Meyer and Tri-County Planning to develop a storm sewer inventory map. This is a requirement of the NPDES program.
- Working with our lawyer to revise the Employee Handbook and will also include the switch of the Lincoln Day Holiday to President’s Day.
- Coming up with a 2024 maintenance program. Construction costs are expected to increase significantly this summer.

Township/Road District Bills:
A bill was submitted after the cut-off by B&H Blacktopping for $29,700. Mike made a motion to pay this bill. Cindy seconded. The motion passed by a unanimous voice vote.
Mike made a motion to pay the bills of the township. Cindy seconded the motion. The motion was approved by a unanimous voice vote.
Adjournment:
Mike made a motion to adjourn, and Shawn seconded it. The motion passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 6:32 pm.
