The Medina Township Board of Trustees Monthly Meeting

Purpose:  Regularly Scheduled Board Meeting

Present:  Shawn Garner, Supervisor

Mike Molohon, Trustee 

Cindy Greene, Trustee

Call To Order:  Supervisor Garner called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm

Approval of Minutes:  Clerk Sundermeyer presented the minutes from the regular board meeting held on April 10, 2024. Shawn Garner made a motion to approve the minutes. Cindy Greene seconded. The minutes were approved by a unanimous voice vote. 

Community Policing Report: 

Deputy Ben Davison gave the report for April 2024. There were 33 reports made involving 12 reports of crimes (4 original crimes).  There were also 16 traffic stops made in the township. There was a shooting incident at the Valley Lakes Center (also known as the Ivy Lakes Club) involving an after-prom party for students from Peoria. This is an isolated incident and falls on the individuals who rented the club. Please remember to lock any vehicles parked outside of your garage.

New Business:  

Shawn presented a Park Agreement for the Brad Wallen Memorial Tournament with the required insurance certificate. Shawn made a motion to approve the Park Agreement. Luke Harvey seconded. The motion was approved by a unanimous voice vote.

Department Correspondence:

Supervisor Shawn Garner:  

  1. Investment Report:  the report ending on May 8, 2024 was previously presented to the board.
  2. There are no General Assistance cases pending. 
  3. There are 2 cases before the Plan Commission; one deals with solar panels and the other deals with a fence.
  4. Shawn asked Widmer furniture for a bid for new chairs for the public at the Township office. The cost was $517 per chair. He will keep looking.
  5. Shawn and Frank are looking for ways to lower the cost of phone and internet at the township office and road district garage. They are talking to other providers.

Road Commissioner:  Frank Sturm

  1. They have filled some potholes and have been delayed by the rainy weather. 
  2. The Spring leaf pick-up was completed on April 30.
  3. The crew is working on getting the spray patcher ready for sale.
  4. Mowing has also been delayed by the rain.
  5. Frank is working with Shawn to find a new cable and phone provider.
  6. The County has let us know that Ameren is closing Rome West Rd from Old Galena Rd. to Rt. 29 from May 13-24th.

Assessor:  Mark Brabant:  None

Plan Commission:   None

Trustees:  Mike Molohon reports that a duck blind was being illegally stored on Medina Township property. It has been moved by the owner. 

Township/Road District Bills:  

Mike made a motion to pay the bills of the township.  Cam Parr seconded.  The motion passed by a unanimous voice vote.

Adjournment:

Mike made a motion to adjourn, and Luke seconded it. The motion passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 6:33 pm.
